SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):435 (abstract no. PD0348). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370717 AB One of the main functions of the National Centre for AIDS Prevention of Republic Belarus is to inform population about HIV/AIDS problem and preventive measures propaganda. This work is being conducted in a close contact wich authoribies ot big cities, republican and local means of mass information, collectives of different services, enterprises producing articles of general consumption and commercial structures. If in 1991 only 51 of nonmedical structures were enlisted to this work, in 1992 their number was 176, and in 1993-261. Among them are ministries, offices, organizations and commercial structures of nonmedical type. In spite of acute economic crisis, these collectives have found possibilities to allot great sums of money for propaganda of HIV/AIDS prevention (that speaks by itself about understanding of the problem). In 1991 their part consisted 87.6% from total sum spent on these aims, in 1992-89.0%, and in 1993-85.0% (excluding sums of money alloted by local authorities of Gomel, Mozir, Lida and Rechitsa for designing these towns on AIDS theme). So we can say that in spite of significant financing of health promotion work on HIV/AIDS theme by the Ministry of Health this method of approach helps to exceed limited possibilities of MoH by 6-8 times. Besides enlisting of different nonmedical services and structures to this work has significally enlarged availability and simplicity of this information. This is indirectly confirmed by a great growth of demands towards one of the main means of HIV prevention--condoms. This also makes it possible to satisfy the requirements at most (in spite of obvious collapse of state establishments) with the help of enlisted commercial structures.
